Habitats and Wildlife

The Manhood Heritage and Wildlife Group area of interest now stretches from the Selsey Bill in the south to the environs of Chichester to the north and from West Wittering in the West to Oving in the East. The land is mostly low lying coastal plain before beginning to rise for the Downs to the north. Although much of the area is very high yield arable land, there are still many different habitats supporting a huge number of wild plants and animals.

Wildlife and its protection and enhancement is a large part of what the Manhood Wildlife and Heritage Group is all about. We all benefit from contact with nature and the natural world and are privileged in living in an area which is so rich and diverse in habitats and species. Thanks to the group the public are becoming more aware of the richness of the natural world around them and of their responsibilities to it. Work parties offer friendly and enjoyable hours when all work together to improve areas for different wildlife, from ditch clearance for water voles to bramble bashing to give flowers and plants light and space.
